The untapped potential of datascientists lies not in their ability to execute requirements or requests but in their ideas for transforming a business. This paper considers datascience from the traditional system science perspective of cybernetics, both at the macro level in application development, and at a micro level, in the use of artificial neural networks. Instead of chasing the “AI replacing datascientists” scenario, we argue that tabular foundation models, agents, and human experts, together, hold the key to unlockingthefullpotentialofdatascience, if the risks and opportunities inherent to their interplay are navigated effectively.
